What is the Plush Pants Free Cloth Nappy Trial Scheme?
Our cloth nappy trial scheme is a “try before you buy” scheme for cloth nappies. The idea is to let you put a variety of nappies & wraps through their paces, to see which ones you get on with best, before you invest in a full set. Having the chance to use the nappies before buying lets you find out things like whether they are absorbent enough, how well they fit, and whether they dry fast enough in your home. You can choose exactly what goes into the kit – if we stock it, you can borrow it (except for wool wraps), although we have a limit of no more than 2 of any specific item. This helps us to make sure there are enough cloth nappies for everyone, most of the time!
Sometimes there is a short wait for the nappies you want to become available, I suggest that you e-mail me first to check availability. If you are pregnant, it’s a good idea to let me have your trial kit request before the birth, and then get in touch when you’re ready to get started.
The Plush Pants Cloth Nappy Trial Scheme is available by post throughout the UK.
Oxfordshire parents are able to borrow a free trial kit, funded by the county council. Please contact either myself, or the council helpline (08450 50 45 50) if you’d like more information. You are still welcome to use our nappy trial scheme if you prefer.
How does it work?
There are just a few simple steps if you’d like to get started and try out real nappies:
1. Browse our website, or the list below, and choose which nappies & wraps you’d like to try. E-mail me your list to check availability, I’ll also confirm the deposit needed.
2. When we have confirmed availability and the deposit required, we can organise payment by credit/debit card by phone, and you need to sign and return a copy of our hire conditions.
3. We will send you your selection of nappies and wraps, clean and ready to use, along with any instructions you might need. We always include some flushable liners and a nappy nippa if required.
4. At the end of your nappy trial period (1-2 weeks), return the items to me, clean and dry, and let me know whether you would like to place an order.

Do not use our shopping basket to order a nappy trial – the scheme cannot be booked in that way.

What should you expect to pay? The nappy trial deposit is based on the retail value of all the items you're borrowing. The hire cost is £1 per item per week (applied after the trial), and the delivery fee is a flat rate of £6 per nappy trial, see our example below:

You would pay £72.70 (£66.70 deposit plus £6.00 p&p - unless you live locally and can collect the kit in person) and I would send you the nappies and wraps you have selected.
At the end of the week, you return the nappies and wraps to me. If you decide not to buy anything further from Plush Pants, then I would refund you £58.70 (deposit of £66.70, less hire charge of £1 per item per week, a total charge of £8.00).
If you decided to place an order with Plush Pants, then I would give you a discount of £66.70 from the total of your purchase (provided your purchase amounts to more than £66.70!). Therefore the nappy trial is effectively free!
Please note that if your order value is less than your deposit, you may still be liable for hire charges - however you will have the option of carrying forward any remaining unused deposit, as a credit against your next order.
Available to Trial:
Please note that, although I have terry squares and prefolds available for trial, I would recommend buying one or two of each to try, as this is more cost-effective. To hire a terry square for 2 weeks will cost £2.00 – similar to the purchase cost, even if you don't like it as a nappy it makes a lovely baby bath towel or a Mummy face cloth (or a car polishing rag, duster, general mopping up cloth)!
I have tried to list the products by manufacturer, to make it easier for you to find the items you are interested in. Nappies are listed first, followed by wraps. Nearly every nappy and wrap we sell is available to hire, if it's on the website but not listed here, do ask!
